The Long and Winding Road. . .

Today was a visit to Hearst Castle. What an amazing place. Hard to believe it's a home that was built in the past 100 years. Most of the furnishings we saw were from much earlier than that. We saw a few rooms in the main building on the first floor, a guest house, the pools and some of the grounds. Plus we watched a movie about the house. Just amazing. We had lunch there at the visitors center where I had a beef bbq sandwich made from Hearst beef..

From there it was up the coast to Monterey. Stopped many times to capture the breathtaking views and of course stopped at the Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery. There were seals everywhere!

Highway 1 is very winding and was definitely a challenge. I love to look at the scenery but could not while driving. We had dinner in Monterey at a British Pub and then headed back to San Simeon on Hwy 101. Did not want to traverse Hwy 1 at night..
